Hey, huge fan of what you guys are doing. This is invaluable information for people who want to tinker with setups and get as much performance out of them as possible, as well as doing a great service to hopefully dispel some of the silly myths that get beginners trapped.
I have a few questions so far. If I'm understanding correctly, based on the results of the two tests featured in The Push podcast, the results can be roughly summarized as: -5" feathers are the most stable in ideal conditions, but are less forgiving of form errors as the feathers hit the shelf with a bad release
-5" feathers are the worst by far in bad weather (drift, angle of entry, stabilization, etc)
-Broadhead size/shape doesn't matter, although 2 vs. 3 blade does (assuming they spin true)
-2"x4 90 degree is the best in adverse conditions
A few things:
1. In the first episode you (Cody) mention you have some data for shield cuts, and would have them soon. Is that info, or even a brief summary thereof, available? Curious as to whether or not shields perform better or worse.
2. The second test was rather revealing, but I'm curious about 3 fletch and orientation/helical. Is that study in the works?
3. I would assume that mass and velocity affect fletching choice. I don't remember if it was listed in the podcast, but what arrow weights were being used? While it seems clear that 3" or perhaps 4" feathers are superior to 5" for general-purpose outdoor shooting (since perfect weather isn't predictable), at which point does a 5" begin performing like a 4" or 3"?
I.e. a 35lb bow shooting 350gr arrows at 190fps, vs a 55lb bow shooting 550gr arrows at 190fps. I imagine more fletching eventually is needed?
